EXTRA-BIBLICAL BOOKS IN THE BIBLE
Most references are from NAS Bible
Thanks for pointing out the fact that
some of the books referenced in the Bible have been lost in antiquity. Sometimes these
points for study can be right in front of our face, and I do not realize it, until
it is pointed out to me.
1.
Book of the Wars of the Lord (Numbers.
21:14) “Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the Lord, "Waheb in Suphah, And the wadis of the Arnon,”
2. Book of Jashar
(Joshua 10:13) “So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it
not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun
stopped in the middle of the sky, and did not hasten to go down for about a
whole day.” (2 Samuel 1:18) “and he told them to teach the sons of
3. 1 Kings 11:41, “Now the rest of the acts of
Solomon and whatever he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book
of the acts of Solomon?”
4. 1 Kings 14:19, “Now the rest of
the acts of Jeroboam, how he made war and how he reigned, behold, they are
written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of
5. 2 Kings 8:23, “And the rest of the acts of Joram and all that he did, are they not written in the Book
of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?”
6. 2 Chronicles 24:27, “As to his sons and the
many oracles against him and the rebuilding of the house of God, behold, they
are written in the treatise of the Book of the Kings. Then Amaziah his son
became king in his place.”
7. The Acts of Gad the Seer (see 1 Chronicles
29:29) “Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the
chronicles of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in
the chronicles of Gad the seer,”
8. Nehemiah 12:23
The sons of Levi, the heads of fathers' households, were
registered in the Book of the Chronicles up to the days of Johanan
the son of Eliashib.
9. Esther 6:1
During that night the king could not sleep so
he gave an order to bring the book of records, the chronicles, and they were
read before the king.
10. Esther 10:2 And all
the accomplishments of his authority and strength, and the full account of the
greatness of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in
the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and
11. took another scroll and gave it to Baruch (Jeremiah
36:32) “Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the son of Neraiah, the scribe, and he wrote on it at the dictation of
Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in
the fire; and many similar words were added to them.”
12. In II Machabees, 2:24-32 its author tells us that it, is a
compendium of a five-volume work by Jason the Cyrenean.
Jason's work is now lost.
13. (Matthew 1:1) “The book of the genealogy of
Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
14. Paul’s previous Corinthian letter (see 1
Corinthians 5:9). “I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral
people;”
15. (Philippians 4:3) “Indeed, true comrade, I
ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of
the gospel, together with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers,
whose names are in the book of life.”
16. (Revelation 5:1) “And I saw in the right hand
of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up
with seven seals.”
17. (Revelation 10:10) “And I took the little
book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was in my mouth sweet as honey;
and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.”
Some of these end of the New Testament
books aren’t lost, we see them by faith.
But we can’t put our hands on them and read them today.

of my good students found the “Book of the Just,” but I could not. If you find this book, let these old eyes
know.
The
"Book of the Just" mentioned in Jos. 10:13 (also with a quotation)
and again in II Kings 1:17, etc.
Book
of the generations of Adam (Genesis 5:1) “This is the book of the generations
of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.”
